ian_w These songs are a perfect antidote to the Covid blues... and Mr White's voice is wonderful. Favorite track: Nevada Dada.

1.
The tide goes out A long long way Tomorrow’s never going to be Just another day A long long way Between the fence posts The fields are full Of angry ghosts Don’t even ask me why Why I’m so remote I hold my head In these hands And look down at Each grain of sand It makes no sense It’s beyond belief Nothing you can do or say Will bring me any relief The tide goes out A long long way Tomorrow’s never going to be Just another day A long long way Between the fence posts The fields are full Of angry ghosts Don’t even ask me why Why I’m so remote
2.
A cockroach lives Behind the kitchen clock It comes out After ten at night When the house is dark And the sodium lights Stretch across the bridge To a black mountain A black mountain Time is just A slave of space It takes a week to Walk round the base Of a black mountain A black mountain Nothing grows On the slopes There’s a point where You give up hope On a black mountain A black mountain The stars are hard In an endless sky You live your life And then you die On a black mountain A black mountain
3.
The child has A long chin She leans it on A knuckled hand Waiting for the world To begin Rain falls outside The window On the edge of A dreaming land And I am like A cosmonaut Who returns to His father’s house By a lake that No-one Understands A lake of wind Rippling Of weeds Drifting On the edge of A dreaming land
4.
It’s great to be without a head You can throw your arms around instead Stay up late Never go to bed It’s great to be without a head You don’t need to worry about your hair Or about a single thing No thought passes between your ears Because your ears aren’t even there It’s great to be without a head It has many advantages You don’t need to be smart Or well read It’s great to be without a head No one will recognize you And there’s nothing that you can’t do It’s great to be without a head You don’t get depressed or annoyed Everything’s a perfect void No need to mention Jung or Freud It’s great to be without a head It’s great to be without a head
5.
Red Capsule 04:12
She departed On her own trajectory A red capsule Sending back signals From a distant galaxy Just shadows behind A hospital curtain Where nothing is real And nothing is certain An overdose Of forgotten pleasures Bright object floating around In the ether Syringe, scalpel And stethoscope Her favourite teacup Filled with smoke There’s a light in everything That’s how the cracks gets in She departed On her own trajectory A red capsule Sending back signals From a distant galaxy Just shadows behind A hospital curtain Where nothing is real And nothing is certain

Nevada Dada 03:48
Nevada dada Nevada dada Frank Sinatra Is a cactus Don’t speak ill Of the dead Nevada dada Nevada dada Bodies are Buried under the sand Don’t speak ill Of the dead They have fingers Golden fingers And ashtrays Made of bone Don’t speak ill Of the dead They never did you Any harm There are cattle On Mars Believe that believe Anything at all Just keep them Doggies rollin’ Into the void Nevada dada Nevada dada
7.
I’ve gone so far In one direction I need an avenue of return Pour l’avenue de retour Vous devez renoncer à tout espoir It’s hard In the forgotten hour To retrace my steps On a hillside Through the burnt trees As the sun begins to set Pour l’avenue de retour Vous devez renoncer à tout espoir
8.
I roam around the margins With a group of friends We don’t seem to fit Into any programme There’s a love of rust A love of decay We stay up all night For the break of day One has a limp One wears a frown One looks like he’s spent Years underground You may smell sulphur Or Eau de Cologne Each of us has A style of his own One makes an omelette With dozens of eggs. One looks for a corner Where he can beg I roam around the margins With a group of friends We don’t seem to fit Into any programme There’s a love of rust A love of decay We stay up all night For the break of day
9.
I’m not the same as you I hold my breath and turn A beautiful shade of blue You’re not the same as me You never were And you’ll never be I’m a mass of knots and you’re Relaxed and free You’re not the same as me I’m an orangutan You’re a chimpanzee We share a different Chemistry You’re not the same as me You never were and You’ll never be Not even to the Slightest degree You’re not the same as me I’m not the same as you I hold my breath and turn A beautiful shade of blue
10.
Through nine wisps Of mist I’ll appear on Your doorstep Through the twists And turns Of all the things we Never seem to learn I’ll pull up a chair At a table set With plates As white as the sky The morning sky
